BiosHub is facing an identity crisis. Started as a Minecraft community, We now find ourselves without a server we enjoy playing and to be honest, We're sick of that game. Eve Online was the game we retreated too, however due to the paranoia any sane person must maintain to stay alive, it's unlikely we will find many community members there.

BiosHub is at heart a generalist community which makes it very difficult to pitch to prospective members. As leader, I enforce a level of maturity in the hopes of encouraging folks who were spurned by other 'clans' to join, but that doesn't seem to help.

So my question is simple. What would you like to see BiosHub become?

By answering this question, You will also grant yourself entry to win one of nine games from Steam.
The rules are very simple. One liner responses without real content will not be counted. Attempts to cheat or gain multiple games will disqualify you. Common sense reigns supreme here folks. Winners will be chosen randomly via random.org. For every 10 posts a game will be given away. If we get less then 10 replies, one will still be given away. Winners will be given their choice of any one game that still remains.

NOTE: Folks who don't want to register here but have a Google+ account can comment on this thread: https://plus.google.com/114509130251275254461/posts/XpeffjURUsF I'll go ahead and include folks who comment there as well.

This contest will run for one week, so feel free to think about your idea or update your existing post.

Please spread this far and wide. The more input I have to work with, the better I can make this community and the more often I'll be able to do free giveaways like this. I'd love to run them on a regular basis. :)

I think BiosHub should become an all out gaming community. We could make a group on steam and invite our friends and they could invite theirs and so on. You could tell everyone what the website is and if they are interested in minecraft or EVE they could simply look up the server info or contact you on the forms or in the EVE world. You could also make it so if people have like Garry's Mod, Half-life 2: Deathmatch, or Team Fortress 2 they could post the ip's of there favorite multiplayer servers inside a thread.

I'm a big fan of maybe focusing on Team Fortress 2 or other similar f2p games. It'd give us a great way to build our community some, talking to folks in game and such without requiring a large cash induction just to get everyone in the same game. Or cheap-ish games like Terraria, Path of Exile, etc.

Hey! I've come here from your post on CAG. I think you should turn it into a fairly general community focused on multiplayer games, with other subforums where people can discuss anything and everything gaming related, other games, consoles etc. I'm not sure about f2p only games as I played one of those in the past, for some they may end up costing more in microtransactions than just buying a game upfront. But with a more general community you can have people who play both f2p and regular games. If you focus on just one game you may eventually run into the same problem where you get bored of it.

Keep the theme of maturity! I've been a member of a few other forums that were focused on adult gamers and I deliberately sought them out through a search engine, because I was tired of playing with rude little boys. Nothing needs to be adults only though, just a certain level of maturity...because that's not often found in public multiplayer games.

I have also played several other free games in the such as Combat Arms, Gunz: The Duel, and several others i could also recommend them.

I agree on not being totally f2p entirely. There's no way we could survive just with those. But with so many truly fun f2p games such as Tribes: Ascend, Blacklight: Retribution, League of Legends, Team Fortress 2 and a few others I'm forgetting, it'd be foolish to not have a focus there. It'd work as a great 'recruiting' bed and from there move on to other games.

    I'm not sick of Minecraft....

Same here, I am just not a fan of playing by myself unless its on tekkit.

I'm not sick of minecraft either...but here's the thing, everyone else is, the majority is. We need to find something that brings our community back instead of slowly pushing them away everyday. i agree with everyone on f2p games, every single one mentioned ive played at one time or another and would love to again with friends.

As for what happens to bioshub. id like it to turn into a bigger community with many different gamers and generalists and maybe start getting group conventions going for people willing to buy-in on a community pool for tickets or somesuch, to get everyone to go.

I can sometimes still enjoy Minecraft, but the amount of work that goes into managing even a basic Minecraft server strips any enjoyment from it. Not only is there the technical backend configuration which is honestly a nightmare, but then there's the in-game building that most of us are not so great at. And then, even once all that is done, there's still not enough to attract much in the way of players.

Question is this: What are some ways we can manage folks playing say, a dozen different games? Have a 'game of the day' or week kinda deal and encourage folks to all play the same thing, or at least focus on it some? Or just leave people at it. Now that I think about it, usually folks tire of a game every 5 days, so Mon-Fri, we could play a 'featured' game, and the weekend is free for all or something like that.

Regarding events, that's a great idea. I'd actually started to do that before but it kinda fell through. We could start with a couple events and work our way up. For example Ohayocon is in January here in Ohio and it'd be fairly cheap for folks to visit. Worst expense would be travel since everyone could crash with me.

    Any further thoughts?

we definetly need to get bioshub back up off its ass we at one point had 7+ active members regularly on mumble now its mostly the staff on all the time. As far as events go I'm sure had we implemented that when we first open the minecraft server with events we would have kept a lot of people. We do need to try and broaden our venue for recruits but its so hard to maintain the recruitment from even a single game atm becuase everyone gets bored of it around the time we get a decent amount of people then it just dies. I vote we try and do this as a true gaming community i.e. creating guilds/clans/squads in different games and focus on one thing more mainstream for recruitment to start then branch into another game. But if we do start getting more members that stay we may have the need of something we havent had in a while, a rework of our staff hierachry, if we grow so do the strains placed on us the current staff i.e. moderating forums and whatever game(s) we are focusing on for recruitment so the need will arise for new lower staff members with Bios being top-tier; Das,me, and Cart mid-tier; and a new true mod grade.

p.s. pardon my grammer cart and das but i cant use grammer for shit

    ^^my point exactly^^
one game first not many then branch out, ask members what they want, make a voting system for what we play next...simple but straight forward.
